Operation Iraqi Freedom Renders

Posted by 1944daily on December 26, 2006

The Operation Iraqi Freedom Mod have released their first weapon renders. Below is their L86A2, you can see more renders including their SA80 Here

The British L86A2 is based on the SA80 Family and is the LSW (Light Support Weapon) for British squads. It has a longer barrel for improved muzzel velocity and this, combined with the free-floating nature of the barrel and the optical performance of the SUSAT, this makes the L86A2 extremely accurate.

Crete: Operation Mercury Update

Posted by 1944daily on September 17, 2006

1944 Mod Crete: Operation Mercury have released their first render, you can see their planned content list Here.

The first model for 1941: Crete is in development, notice that this is still a work in progress. It will be the German DFS Assault Glider which carried some of the troops that took part in the first wave of the attack on Crete.

The glider was a formidable plane, able to silently deliver it’s load of troops with full suprise upon the enemy positions, as was seen both on Crete but also during the attack on the Belgian fortress of Eben Emael. They were most often towed by the Ju52 Transport Plane (Tante Ju) which you will see more off at a later date. The glider was modeled by The Wookiee.

1941 Crete: Operation Mercury Announced

Posted by 1944daily on September 4, 2006

The latest Mod for 1944 to be announced is 1941 Crete: Operation Mercury, you can see the full details Here.

My idea for the mod is to include the whole battle in the same style as 1944: D-day. This would allow the player to experience several different aspects of the art of war. For instance you could take part in the initial drop either by parachute or by glider. You could fight in the siege-like battle that took place around the old Olive Oil factory in the Rethimno (Rethymnon) province or try to force out the enemy from the prison in Prison Valley near Ayia. You could take part in the house-to-house fighting that evolved in Xania (Candea), Rethimno and Iraklio (Heraklion). Or take up arms as a Cretan civilian and follow the local monks (many of them led their floks) into battle. Be a luftwaffe pilot trying to stop the Royal Navy from re-inforcing the island or from evacuating it (depending on the circumstances of course). And of course there are thousands of other options.

The Battle of Crete involves many different kinds of units for the player to chose from, many of whom were elite. German para- and mountain troopers. New Zealand Maoris with their famous “haka” war cry. English commando forces of the Layforce, Australian veterans from the Battles in the African desert and on mainland Greece, and Cretan civilians who armed with ancient weapons, knifes and hayforks took part in the defence of their island along with a lot of others including Palestinian Jews.

Zombies, Wookies and Hitmen

Posted by 1944daily on August 30, 2006

Three new Mods have been proposed for 1944 in the past week, here’s q quick overview:

Untitled Zombie Project: This mod will primarily be Multiplayer, as it will focus on co-op game play between players, they must group together to fight the zombie threat. But, getting together will be hard, as they will all spawn in random locations around the map. This mod will opt for a co-operative style of game play rather then the usual death match of other mods and games.

All Characters will be normal people, ranging from Police Officers to nurses, from paramedics to mechanics. Each class of Character will have its pros and cons, for instance a Police officer will have a Firearm from the start, but might be stranded in the middle of no ware. Were as the mechanic can fix a damaged car so that he can drive and find other people. All the details will be decided upon at a later date.

The weapons used will be modern weapons, ranging from 2×4′s to Assault Rifles. The weapons will all be modern weapons and depending on their lethality will be harder or easier to get to. For instance, a zombie Police officer may be carrying a Glock 9mm, how ever the only way to get to it will be to kill him, or there could be a host of weapons in the Police Station, how ever the Police Station is full of the undead, and very very hard to get to.

Star Wars Mod: So far just a few ideas, ‘Old Trilogy Endor battle, where you can fight in space, on Endor, or in the Death Star II’, but they do have a concept artist/texturer.

Mortal Wounds: ‘It follows Mathias, a hired personal contracter. His job, is to carry out the contracts people give him, and they can basically be anything. It can range from being a hitman to driving “goods” to somewhere.

Setting – As I said before basically it is a city. It will be similar to like New York. Alot of people walk, ride bikes, drive cars, skateboard, and so on. The city will consists of stores, buildings, apartments, theaters, and all the good stuff (and bad) you would find in a city.

Weapons – To keep the realism, I want to include any weapon you could potentially find in a store. Also, since probably somebody might point out, you can get weapons from certain people, for instance, the mafia or a cargo shipment.’

Operation Iraqi Freedom Update

Posted by 1944daily on August 15, 2006

Operation Iraqi Freedom have had forums for a while, but have now launched a new website and registered with Moddb.

Our mod is for 1944 D-Day:Operation Overlord ( www.1944game.com ) which you may have heard something about. The original game will cover 160×160 km of Normandy, we will try and recreate the whole of southern Iraq. I’ll give you an overwiew of what we shall try to receate. The mod itself is called Operation Iraqi Freedom(OIF), the part that we will be covering is Operation TELIC 1. The reason why we use the British name for the section that we’re doing is that it is divided up into sections 1, 2, 3, etc. We will primarily focus on southern Iraq but at a later stage we may offer ‘Booster’ packs which give a different form of fighting such as the Operations in Falujah against insurgents, or with the Kurds in the North fighting as an insurgent against the regime. At the start of the game you will be able to choose between American, British, Polish and Australian forces. We will continue to develop ideas and these are by no means final.

Content Media Update

Posted by 1944daily on July 26, 2006

Ronan Hayes of Frantic Games has uploaded all the media that we’d seen in previous updates, but wasn’t available for a long period because of the server move. It’s a lot to look through, but I think it’s all media we’ve seen previously, some of my favourites are the HL2 Mod UI screens from back in February. You can see it all Here.

HL2: 1944 July Update

Posted by 1944daily on July 21, 2006

Ronan Hayes has posted a July update over at Moddb, you can read it Here. We’ve shown you all the media before at 1944Daily.com, but the most intriguing part of the update was what’s coming next.

So whats to come in the next few weeks?

We will be finishing up our beta sign-up and granting full access to those lucky ones selected. We will finally be unleashing full in game screen-shots as well as video clips (No due date yet, but we are working through it).

We will be forming even tighter relationships with many leading middle-ware companies as we increase the integration and functionality of these products.

We will also be looking for partners to help us maintain and develop the HL2 and BF2 mod beyond its current state. These teams will be provided with full access to all our content and current code base and will be able to take 1944 in all new directions.

Texture Artists Needed

Posted by 1944daily on July 21, 2006

The 1944 D-Day Operation Overlord team posted a new ad in their HL2 Mod profile over at Moddb last night, you can read it Here.

At the moment we have alot of props that require quick textures, they are very easy and straight forward and we already have them unwrapped. We also have some weapons, and tanks as well. The problem that we are having is that our texture artists cannot keep pace with our modelling team. So extra assistance would be greatly appreciated
